My connection to Skyland Ranch in Gold Bar, Washington, began through a wonderfully unlikely series of coincidences and has become a place I've returned to many times since. Skyland offers second chances to both rescued horses and men in recovery, using horsemanship, trust, and connection as part of the healing process. The ranch also welcomes the public for trail rides along the river, which is what eventually brought my family and me there for the first time.

After our first ride, the owner and heart of Skyland, KC, invited us to wander the property. Horses stood quietly among fields of wild foxglove, and I couldn't stop photographing them. There was something unforgettable about seeing the strength of the horses surrounded by those tall, delicate flowers.

Those photographs eventually became the inspiration for For the Love of Foxglove. The title arrived later, when a dear family friend saw the finished painting and exclaimed, “For the love of foxglove!” It stayed.
