For the Love of Foxglove was inspired by Skyland Ranch in Gold Bar, Washington, a place I first found through a wonderfully unlikely series of coincidences and have returned to many times since. The ranch offers event rental and also second chances to both rescued horses and men in recovery, using horsemanship, trust, and connection as part of the healing process, while also welcoming the public for trail rides along the river.

On my first visit, the owner and heart of Skyland, KC, invited us to wander the property, her horses standing in fields of wild foxglove. I was captivated by the pairing of these powerful animals with the tall, delicate flowers surrounding them, and carried those images home with me.

The title came later, when a friend saw the finished painting and exclaimed, “For the love of foxglove!” It stayed.
