Iris Unfolding

Iris Unfolding is a loose, large-scale reimagining of an iris motif from an earlier still-life series. The work was inspired by an iris I passed often on walks near my home during a period of declining health. One stem had a tendency to lean into the path, and I found myself stopping to lift and brace it again—a small, recurring act of noticing and tending to something in nature that, like all living things, sometimes needed a little support. Painted in layered violets, plum, aubergine, and olive, the piece explores the iris through a freer, more gestural interpretation while retaining the nostalgia that runs through my still-life work.
